Legal Case Filed Against Elon Musk’s X for Account Hacking

SAO PAULO: Brazil’s first lady Rosangela “Janja” Lula da Silva said on Tuesday she would sue Elon Musk-owned social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, after her account was hacked last week.

An alleged hacker accessed Janja’s account on December 11 and posted several messages, including insults to the first lady and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as well as misogynistic slurs.

“I still don’t know if I have to sue them in the United States or in Brazil, but I will sue them,” Janja said in a live broadcast with Lula.

He also called on Brazil to regulate social media platforms, saying they must be responsible for the actions of their users.

Lula acknowledged the need for social media regulation worldwide, but expressed concern about the complexity of the issue.

“It’s a challenge to know how we could deal with it without censorship,” the leftist leader said.

“I know the European Union has already legislated some. We have to watch very closely what the US and also China are doing.”
