Linda Yaccarino Hails Elon Musk’s Twitter Rebrand as “Unlimited Interactivity”
After Elon Musk’s acquisition, Twitter has undergone numerous changes, including the launch of Twitter Blue, the implementation of ‘temporary’ restrictions, and the introduction of fresh features. Now, after 17 years, the microblogging platform is undergoing a rebranding process, bidding farewell to its iconic bird logo and embracing a new X symbol.
On Sunday, Musk wrote on Twitter: “If a good enough X logo is released tonight, we’ll go global tomorrow,” and later tweeted a short mockup video of the X logo by Sawyer Merritt, founder of sustainable clothing brand Twin Berch Merritt, and the supposed new logo has also become Musk’s pinned tweet.
Twitter becomes X
Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino revealed details of Twitter’s rebranding in a tweet Monday, calling the platform “the future state of limitless interactivity.” Twitter changed the way we communicate, Yaccarino said, and X could go even further to revolutionize international social exchange. AI-powered X “will connect us all in ways we’re only just beginning to imagine.” The new X platform could focus on audio, video, messaging and banking, and would become an international hub for the exchange of goods, services and opportunities.
Speaking about Twitter’s evolution over the years, Yaccarino tweeted: “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, innovate faster, and realize our great potential. X does that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the last 8 months thanks to our rapid feature releases, but we’re just getting started.
Elon Musk and X – History
This isn’t the first time a company owned by Elon Musk has been renamed around X. In fact, his fascination with X dates back to 1999, when he founded X.com, a supposed one-stop shop for your financial needs that could replace traditional banking. But in 2001, the platform became part of PayPal, which was then bought by eBay, although ownership of the domain was returned to Musk a few years ago.
The Twitter chief has also included the X in his space and automotive ventures with SpaceX and the Tesla Model X. Now the same is being done with Twitter, with the X.com domain now directing users to Twitter, potentially realizing Musk’s vision of a centralized service that meets all the needs of social media users.
