Looking to Keep Your Instagram Story Private? Here’s How to Conceal it from Certain Viewers
Sometimes you might not want to share your Instagram stories with all your followers. Maybe you have privacy or security concerns, or you just don’t want certain people to see what you’re up to. Whatever the reason, there is a way.
Fortunately, Instagram gives you the ability to limit who can see your story—all within the app. However, don’t confuse this with the “Close Friends” list, which is designed specifically for sharing messages and stories with close friends and family only. It’s a separate method that’s been around for a while, before Instagram’s Nearby Friends feature.
Now let us walk you through the process of blocking certain people from seeing your stories:
– Open Instagram and go to your profile page.
– Look for the hamburger menu in the upper right corner and click on it.
– Select Settings and privacy from the menu.
– Find the “Who can see your content” section and find the “Hide story and live” setting.
– In this setting, specify the specific account you want to restrict and check their account to hide all stories and lives from them. In particular, you can select several accounts at once.
This method allows you to filter certain people from viewing your stories without having to add many people to your Close Friends list, which, let’s be honest, can be a bit annoying for some people. However, Instagram also offers the option to mute accounts.
This can be useful if you don’t want to unfollow them, but don’t want to see content from your feed on your slimmer account. You can find this “What you see” section in the Instagram settings.
