McKinsey Report Predicts 12 Million US Workers Will Need to Change Jobs Due to AI
Do you have concerns about your job being replaced by AI? Although fears of job loss due to AI are prevalent, there are other upcoming changes that employees must adapt to in order to avoid being terminated. Nevertheless, the truth is that as the utilization of AI grows, individuals’ employment will be at risk, and a significant number may face layoffs.
Advanced artificial intelligence is expected to bring major changes to how people work in the United States by 2030, according to a McKinsey report. That could mean about 12 million people need to find new jobs, and could potentially automate 30 percent of the hours worked in the U.S. economy.
What does studying say?
According to a McKinsey Global Institute study, around 11.8 million workers may have to change jobs due to this AI shift. Some may have to start working in completely different fields, while others may find better paying jobs.
Of course, at the other end of the burden, new jobs will also be created. Many new jobs may be created in the health care sector, approximately 5.5 million more by 2030. In the coming years, the demand for jobs that partly require science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills will increase. because artificial intelligence is used more in different fields.
Since artificial intelligence is good for managing things, for example, jobs such as office support and customer service may decrease by 2030. The number of jobs in the catering sector may also decrease, but not by as much. This may affect women and some groups of people more.
The study mentioned that even though artificial intelligence will take over some tasks, it does not mean that all jobs will disappear. Many jobs will remain, but the way people work may change.
People who stay in their jobs could see big changes in the way they work, with AI doing about 30 percent of their jobs. This is more than before because AI like ChatGPT can do things that require a lot of knowledge and even creativity.
The study concluded that if artificial intelligence did not exist, current technology could do about 22 percent of the work that humans do today. The increase to 30% is due to artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, which can do things that previous technology could not do.
The study predicted that there might be fewer jobs paying less than $38,200, but more jobs paying $68,700 or more. People who earn less may have to change jobs more often.
