Meta’s Threads Could Enable Editing of Posts in the Near Future
Meta’s Threads may soon introduce the ability to edit posts within 5 minutes of posting them, matching its competitor X (formerly Twitter), which already allows post editing.
In particular, X allows editing of messages within an hour of posting, but this feature is part of their X Premium subscription, which includes additional benefits such as a blue checkmark, better coverage, and eligibility for X revenue sharing. In contrast, Meta’s Threads is expected to offer this editing feature for free to all users.
This development is based on internal screenshots shared by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, who noted that users have a 5-minute window to edit their posts after publishing.
Although this feature is not currently available to users, it may be released in the future. Until Meta officially announces this feature, however, it should be taken with a grain of salt. But Instagram head Adam Mosseri in particular has previously mentioned that Meta is working on new features for Threads, including the ability to edit posts. So it remains to be seen when or if Meta will actually release this new editing feature.
In related news, Meta is also working on allowing users to delete their Threads profile without affecting their Instagram account. Alessandro Paluzzi pointed out that after deleting a Threads profile, users who want to rejoin Threads with the same Instagram account must wait 120 days.
If true, it would be a big change for users who have criticized Meta for not allowing them to delete their Threads profile without also deleting their Instagram profile. It could also inspire more people to create anonymous accounts on Threads, which Twitter is known for.
