Microsoft may soon introduce ChatGPT-like AI to Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook: Report
Days after announcing the integration of OpenAI with Bing, Microsoft is poised to take another big step forward in its efforts to push and integrate AI technology into its core productivity software. The Redmond-based tech giant is reportedly planning to introduce its latest AI model – Prometheus to its popular software including Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
According to sources cited by The Verge, details of Microsoft’s productivity plans to integrate OpenAI’s linguistic artificial intelligence technology will be revealed in the coming weeks. And an announcement is expected in March – suggesting Microsoft wants a slice of the pie – well before rivals like Google enter the scene.
Additionally, it has been reported that Microsoft has tested OpenAI’s GPT models with Outlook to improve search capabilities and email responses, and has incorporated the technology into Word to improve typing. Now it remains to be seen what real-world improvements such an implementation can bring to the table.
Microsoft’s motivation to leverage its billion-dollar investment in OpenAI is based on its competition with rival Google. Amid the AI race, Microsoft pushed back its Bing announcement earlier this month, ahead of its originally estimated date of late February. At the event, the company introduced its updated Bing search engine, powered by next-generation ChatGPT AI.
The new Bing experience offers a preview of the company’s capabilities, offering users an improved search experience that offers more complete answers, a convenient chat feature and the ability to create content.
The recently updated Bing search engine has been made available to the public, but there is a waiting list.
