Mira Murati “Honored” to Lead OpenAI – But Who’s Taking Over for Sam Altman?
According to a memo reviewed by Bloomberg, Mira Murati, the Interim CEO of OpenAI, expressed feeling honored and humbled to assume the leadership position at the company after Sam Altman’s departure.
Murati also urged employees who are still harassed by the sudden departure of Altman, one of the most visible figures in the artificial intelligence industry, to focus on their work.
“We are now at a crucial stage where our tools are widely used, developers are actively building our platforms, and policymakers are considering the best ways to regulate these systems,” Murati wrote in the memo. “This is a welcome step forward and an opportunity to participate in a future where artificial intelligence is built and used for good.”
He also said the company will continue its partnership with its largest investor, Microsoft Corp. “Our partnership with Microsoft remains central to our work,” he wrote. He also said he spoke with Microsoft’s CEO, who expressed unwavering support.
Murati did not mention Altman by name in the memo.
