MWC 2024: Google Android introduces 6 new AI photography features and instant search capabilities
At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, the global tech scene is buzzing with industry leaders unveiling cutting-edge advancements in mobile technology. Alphabet took center stage this year, introducing innovative features within its Google Android ecosystem aimed at improving user experiences on a global scale.
Menaka Shroff, head of global product marketing for Android, announced on Monday: “At MWC Barcelona, we’ll be revealing how our latest AI technologies and multi-device experiences can improve your productivity in the Android ecosystem.”
1. Try Circle to Search
Only on Android, the Circle to Search app lets you search instantly anywhere on your phone without switching apps. At MWC’s Circle to Search exhibit, explore what you can circle, highlight, scratch, or tap—like interesting landmarks, foods you want to try, and more. Circle to Search is now available on select Android premium phones, including the Google Pixel 8, Google Pixel 8 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S24 series.
2. Get the perfect shot with the Best Take app on Google Pixel 8 and Google 8 Pro
Best Take is an AI-powered Google Photos feature on Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro that lets you create a group photo. Try it out with your group at MWC – just take a few photos and Best Take will capture every best look in one shot.
3. See Google Pixel Fold’s Dual Screen interpreter mode in action
Google Pixel Fold’s Dual Screen Interpreter Mode displays real-time translations to help break down language barriers. At MWC, you’ll notice that the Fold’s unique design displays translations on both screens (one on each side), so you can have a natural conversation without interruption – which is especially useful when travelling.
4. Enable new Android Auto features
Step into the BMW i5 M60 and be among the first to experience Android Auto’s new communication features. Using artificial intelligence, Android Auto automatically summarizes long texts (even group chats) and suggests relevant responses so you can stay connected without compromising road safety. When you’re behind the wheel, explore the latest Android Auto apps, including productivity apps like Zoom, smart home apps, and more.
5. Tune into the conversation about artificial intelligence
On February 26 at 15:15 CET, Google DeepMind CEO and co-founder Demis Hassabis will join renowned technology journalist Steven Levy on the main stage of MWC in Hall 4 for a fireside discussion titled “A new era intelligence”. They’ll discuss the ways AI is poised to change our world—from solving big scientific problems like energy, climate change, and drug development to transforming human creation, communication, and business. Tune in live. And if you’re feeling inspired after the session, visit our space to chat with Gemini and collaborate with the best of Google’s AI.
6. See how the McLaren F1 racing team uses Google technology
From the Chrome browser to Android, the McLaren Formula 1 racing team relies on our technology at the McLaren Technology Center and on the track to improve collaboration and better analyze track data. This technology contributed to McLaren’s world record fastest F1 pit stop last season (1.80 seconds).
In Google’s demo mode, see how the McLaren F1 team uses Android devices to take their performance to the next level. See how McLaren uses Android-powered Samsung devices – including Galaxy smartphones, watches and tablets – in their race weekend operations. For example, they used Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra devices to produce live 360-degree footage for the team during a pit stop. They also used Quick Share to share clips to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra so they could watch and tag their pit stops in real time.
