Neopets Revamping Flash Games and Developing Social Life-Sim Mobile App
The Neopets Team has ambitious plans to modernize the once-popular virtual pet website. In a detailed post on Medium, the team revealed that a new Neopets website will be launched on July 20th. Although it will retain the same URL, the revamped site will feature all the brand’s updates, as well as links to its various games and products. The team is currently working on fixing bugs and ensuring compatibility with mobile browsers. Additionally, they are considering using Ruffle, a Flash player emulator, to enable the playability of old Flash-based Neopets games once again.
The company that owned Neopets planned to create an animated series based on the once-beloved virtual pet website, but didn’t air the series until it shut down. In their announcement, the Neopets team has revealed that they are under new management and have raised over $4 million in funding for their future projects. Team members definitely seem optimistic about the future of the brand.
In fact, the team is not going to stop with the revamped website. Apparently, it has decided to go mobile and build a social simulation game called World of Neopets from the ground up. Currently, the plan is to develop the game from Neopet’s point of view. Players can decorate their homes, explore lands in 3D, and play mini-games with friends like Animal Crossing. However, it seems that the project is still very much in the early stages, and it remains to be seen if it will come to fruition.
