New Feature on YouTube Makes Watching Videos at Double Speed Easier
If you’re someone who enjoys watching videos at a faster pace than usual, YouTube is currently testing a feature that might be useful for you. The YouTube experiment page reveals that they are currently experimenting with a gesture feature that allows users to long press on the video player, resulting in the video playing at double the speed.
Being an avid YouTuber, sometimes it’s easier to speed up the boring parts, but at the same time it doesn’t miss the important points. The speed of the new feature is simplified, so we can finally enjoy our YouTube videos without using the current infernal system.
About the new YouTube feature
In the past, to speed up videos on mobile phones or computers, you had to go to controls and then settings, then you had to find a menu to select the speed. It was a long process that required time and effort. Now with this new testing feature, all you have to do is long press anywhere in the video to automatically double the speed.
According to The Verge. This new feature is inspired by TikTok. According to YouTube, this new feature is open for testing until August 16th. Please note that this testing feature is only available to YouTube Premium subscribers and is expected to be available to everyone soon after testing is complete.
When the feature is enabled, a message will appear at the top of the video that says “Play at 2x speed”. When using the online version, releasing the mouse or trackpad will pause the video. On Android and iOS devices, lifting your finger prevents the gesture and allows the video to continue playing.
It is a useful feature for long videos and podcasts. The feature is handy for YouTube users. Although you need a premium subscription to use the new 2x speed on your smartphone and computers.
