Nintendo Not Developing Expansion for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
According to certain calculations, it requires approximately 235 hours to fully experience all aspects of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. A few individuals have already accomplished this feat and are craving additional content. However, unlike Breath of the Wild, Nintendo is unlikely to release a significant expansion for this game.
“There are no plans for additional content,” Tears of the Kingdom producer Eiji Aonuma told Famitsu. The reason for this, as Automaton points out, is because the developers believe they’ve already pushed all of their major gameplay ideas into the base game. Given the sheer scale of Tears of the Kingdom and the opportunities it offers players to solve puzzles, beat up enemies and torture Koroks, the team could be forgiven for taking this view.
And so, it’s on to the next game, whatever that may be. Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi said his team is thinking about what its “next fun experience” might be, but he’s unsure at this point what that will look like.
By all means, don’t expect a return to 2D Zelda games or any form of Breath of the Wild. “The series continued to evolve after Ocarina of Time, but I think it’s also fair to say now that we’ve arrived at Breath of the Wild and the new kind of more open play and freedom it offers,” Aonuma told Game Informer. May. “Yeah, I think it’s fair to say it’s created a new format for the series to go from.”
Some will be disappointed that the Tears of the Kingdom expansion is not available. However, you might want to start thinking about blocking off a few hundred hours from the 2028 or 2029 calendar so you can experience the next big Zelda game as soon as possible.
