‘Sonic Superstars’ Revamps Classic Gameplay with a Contemporary Twist
Sonic the Hedgehog is making a comeback with a fresh appearance. The beloved character from Sega Genesis, along with his companions, will feature in Sonic Superstars, a modern version of the 2D platform game series that replaces the traditional 16-bit visuals with a contemporary design.
The game’s trailer begins by showing a cartoon hedgehog completing the Green Hill Zone in the 1991 original, only to find himself in a split-screen view that catapults into the 2023 standard. In addition to updated graphics, the title introduces familiar gameplay, some new gimmicks, and a familiar Cast – including Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. Unsurprisingly, they are tasked with defeating Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik). It also showcases police play with friends.
Sonic Superstars is scheduled for release this fall. It will be available for PS5/4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
