OpenAI introduces ChatGPT widget for Android phones, allowing for faster access directly from the home screen
OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, has rolled out a new widget for Android smartphones, enabling faster access directly from the home screen. This move comes as part of OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to stay competitive in the market, particularly against rivals like Google Gemini. In addition to introducing memory capabilities that allow ChatGPT to recall previous conversations without the need for constant reminders, the company is now focusing on enhancing user accessibility with the new home screen widget.
ChatGPT gets a widget
The home screen widget feature was revealed by Android Central contributor Mishaal Rahman. X in the post. Rahman posted: “ChatGPT for Android now has a home screen widget.” The ChatGPT widget includes several options, including shortcuts for text, audio, and video polls.
Additionally, it allows users to initiate a chat mode, allowing users to interact with the AI chatbot directly from their smartphone’s home screen. The ChatGPT widget was seen in app version 1.2024.052.
It is important to note that we tried to test this feature, but it is not available in ChatGPT version 1.2024.045, which is currently in the Google Play Store. Therefore, it’s possible that it’s still in beta and the public rollout hasn’t happened yet.
ChatGPT problems
This feature comes just a few days after ChatGPT ran into problems. On February 20, several users reported that they were experiencing issues with ChatGPT. The AI chatbot is said to have changed the language by itself, got stuck in loops, corrected itself from time to time and even ate nonsensical answers.
Soon after, OpenAI acknowledged the problems. The problem was soon discovered and OpenAI implemented the fixes, after which it continued to monitor the situation.
