OpenAI introduces GPT-4 Turbo, addressing previous user concerns of ‘laziness’
OpenAI has introduced GPT-4 Turbo, its newest advancement designed to excel in tasks like code generation and effectively address user concerns regarding incomplete task execution. This development is a direct response to user complaints about the previous version’s perceived ‘laziness’ in completing given tasks, prompting OpenAI to take proactive measures to improve performance.
In a recent blog post, OpenAI confirmed the release of GPT-4 Turbo, a version specifically tailored to reduce the task imperfections seen in its predecessor. Despite accepting this update, the company is not disclosing the exact details of the changes made to the GPT-4 Turbo.
GPT-4 Turbo vs. GPT-4 and user migration trends
The dissatisfaction of ChatGPT users, who say that the failure to complete tasks is due to the lack of updates for GPT-4, has led OpenAI to clarify that the update is for GPT-4 Turbo. This advanced version is trained on the latest data from April 2023 and is currently available as a preview version. Users of standard GPT-4 relying on data up to September 2021 may still encounter the laziness issues previously identified.
OpenAI reports that more than 70 percent of users using GPT-4 through the API have already migrated to GPT-4 Turbo thanks to its updated database. The company has assured users that further updates to GPT-4 Turbo are in the works, with the promise of general availability, including GPT-4 Turbo with vision. This expanded feature allows users to engage in more complex multimodal prompts, such as text-to-image creation.
In addition to the GPT-4 Turbo announcement, OpenAI has introduced smaller AI models known as embedding. These embeddings are defined as “strings of numbers representing the concepts of the content” and play a crucial role in applications using search-augmented generation. This innovative approach involves pulling information from a database rather than generating answers independently. OpenAI has released two new templates, text-embedding-3-small and the more powerful text-embedding-3-large, which are now available.
