Oppo has no plans to commercially launch its rollable phone
You may have to wait longer to see a rollable business phone.
Oppo recently presented Oppo X 2021, a concept smartphone with a roll-up screen. The company, however, has no plans to offer a commercial version in the near future, reports Android Authority.
The company said the smartphone concept will serve as a guide for a transformation and evolution of its future form factors.
Commercialization requires market research and business justification, and can take some time, Oppo added.
Oppo had presented X 2021 on its recent Inno Day. The roll-up phone comes with a 6.7 inch screen which can be stretched sideways to become a 7.4 inch screen. The single form factor is said to be another alternative to what is increasingly becoming a monotonous design for phones.
In recent years, we have seen an influx of foldable smartphones. At least two foldable models are commercially available – one that opens like a book and another flip style.
Interestingly, LG is also working on a roll-up phone. Set to debut in March 2021, the phone codenamed B Project “will allow one of the sides of the front screen to be pulled out so that the screen unfolds to become a larger screen.”
