PM Modi Launches 100 ‘5G Use Case Labs’ in Educational Institutions Across India at IMC 2023
At the 7th India Mobile Congress 2023 in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 100 “5G Use Case Labs” to educational institutions across the country. These labs are being developed under the “100 5G lab initiative”. All major institutes of technology in different states of India now have 5G lab including IITs.
“The 100 5G lab initiative is an effort to realize the potential of 5G technology by encouraging the development of 5G applications that meet both India’s unique needs and global demands. The unique initiative will promote innovation in various socio-economic sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, power, transportation, etc. , and put the country at the forefront of 5G technology use,” according to the statement.
The initiative is also a key step in building a 6G-ready academic and startup ecosystem in the country. More importantly, the initiative is a step towards developing domestic telecommunications technology critical to national security, it added.
At IMC 2023, Reliance Jio also introduced India’s first satellite-based GigaFiber service called Jio SpaceFiber in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The new Jio SpaceFiber service aims to provide fast broadband services to previously unreachable geographical areas in India.
The service will be available all over the country at a very affordable price. Currently, Jio SpaceFiber is now available in the four most remote locations in India – Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam.

India Mobile Congress (IMC) is Asia’s largest telecom, media and technology forum and will be held from 27th to 29th. October 2023.
