Possible Upgrade to Larger Display Expected for Apple’s iPhone SE 4
Since the launch of the first generation in 2015, Apple’s iPhone SE models have always featured LCD screens and an outdated design language, but this may all change soon with the next-generation iPhone SE 4.
According to a new report from The Elec, the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to use an OLED panel in the iPhone SE 4, and this panel may be the same as the iPhone 13.
If this were to happen, Apple’s entire lineup would have OLED panels for the first time, eliminating the LCD screen.
The report further adds that manufacturers including Samsung and BOE are competing to supply Apple with new panels. Apple may enter this race as it seeks to negotiate prices. Samsung is said to offer the cheapest panels at $30 per unit, compared to BOE’s $35 and Tianma’s $40.
This could help Apple maintain an affordable price tag with the iPhone SE 4. Partly because these costs are much cheaper than what the company is paying for the iPhone 15 series and do not require new research and development from the manufacturer, since these panels are expected to be the same as the iPhone 13 panels.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in 2025, giving Apple plenty of time to continue negotiations.
Also, this report confirms what analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said before. Kuo mentioned that the next-gen Apple iPhone SE could have a design similar to the iPhone 14, and these rumors certainly point in that direction considering that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 share the same design language.
