Production of these iPhone models may be discontinued after the release of the iPhone 15 this year: Learn more
Apple’s iPhone 15 is expected to launch later this year, and rumor mills have been busy coming up with new details and even leaked the design of these iPhone models. It is widely expected that Apple will introduce the iPhone 15 series with USB C charging support, which may or may not be limited to certain markets.
But with the hype already starting to build, there are other aspects of Apple’s iPhone lineup that deserve a mention.
The new releases mean that older iPhone models will be discontinued, and in keeping with years of Apple tradition, we could see iPhone 12 models picking up from the company’s global lineup. The iPhone manufacturer usually stopped selling the three-year-old model after the new version came on the market.
And with the iPhone 15 likely to hit the market, it’s time for the iPhone 12 series to clear the lid on the new models. iPhones now come in different shapes and sizes, with the Mini, Plus, Pro and Pro Max being part of the portfolio for the past few years.
But the vanilla model still held true, while the Minis and Plus came and went. Reports indicate that the Mini series is done for good, at least until Apple decides otherwise. And this year’s Plus model may also become the company’s one-off experiment, which means you can buy a Plus model, but not in abundance.
Taking the iPhone 12 off the shelf doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t buy it or that Apple will end support for the model. After all, Apple is one of the few brands that has provided OS and security updates for over 4 years. And in a market like India, where you still have the iPhone Xr and iPhone 11 and even sell the iPhone SE, the older models become more attractive to anyone looking for an affordable gateway into the Apple ecosystem.
