Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Chipsets for Affordable Smartphones
Qualcomm has recently announced the launch of its latest mobile chipset, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which is aimed at budget-conscious consumers. The updated platform boasts several enhancements that will elevate the performance of entry-level smartphones. The chipset is optimized for extended battery life, with Qualcomm assuring users of uninterrupted usage throughout the day. Additionally, the company has promised swift CPU speeds, 5G connectivity, and improved camera capabilities for enhanced visuals.
The chips feature a patented Qualcomm Kryo processor with a peak speed of up to 2.2 GHz, which is slightly more than the previous generation. Qualcomm’s latest and greatest also features fast charging technology, and the company claims you’ll get a 50 percent charge in just 15 minutes with a plug.
The platform supports modern FHD+ screens with a frame rate of up to 120 fps. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 also enables some serious camera upgrades, such as electronic image stabilization, faster autofocus, enhanced blur reduction, and more. The chipset even offers Multi-Camera Temporal Filtering (MCTF), which dramatically reduces noise when shooting videos.
Of course, this is a modern product announced in 2023, so let’s focus on AI. This comes in the form of new camera updates, AI-based lighting adjustments for taking photos in dim environments, and an AI-enhanced background noise removal tool.
In terms of connectivity, there’s the proprietary X61 5GB Modern-RF system, which promises “very fast speeds” with increased network and frequency support. These chips aren’t in budget-friendly smartphones yet, but they’ll start showing up later this year. OEM brands like Redmi and vivo have already promised to start adding the chipset to their lineup.
