Reason for Removal of Over 2 Million YouTube Videos from Indian Users in Q4 2023
YouTube has removed more than 2.25 million videos in India for violating community rules in the last quarter of 2023, the popular video streaming platform said in a report released on Tuesday.
The number of videos removed from the platform between October and December 2023 in India is the highest among 30 countries, YouTube said in a report.
Singapore (1,243,871) and the United States (788,354) had the second and third most videos removed. Iraq came in last with 41,176 videos.
Globally, YouTube removed 9 million videos during the same period, and 96 percent of the videos were first made by machines.
Of these, 53.46 percent were removed before they received a single view, and 27.07 percent received between 1 and 10 views before being removed, YouTube said in a statement.
“YouTube’s community rules are enforced consistently across the globe, regardless of the uploader, where the content was uploaded, or how the content was created. When content is removed for violating our rules, it is removed globally and policies are enforced using a combination of machine learning and human reviewers,” the social media platform said.
In addition, YouTube removed more than 20 million channels in the last quarter of 2023 for violating “spam policies, including but not limited to scams, misleading metadata or thumbnails, videos and comments.”
More than 1.1 billion comments were also weeded out, most of which were spam. More than 99 percent of deleted comments were detected automatically, YouTube said.
