Reddit App Introduces Image Search Functionality
Reddit, a popular social media platform functioning as a forum, is divided into numerous communities called subreddits. Within these subreddits, members engage in posting, commenting, and discussing various subjects. While Reddit is known for its abundance of images, including memes, amusing pictures, stunning artwork, and wallpapers for desktops and smartphones, it previously lacked image-focused search tools. However, this is no longer the case as the platform has introduced a new feature on its iOS and Android apps, enabling users to exclusively search for images.
The feature is only available on Reddit’s native mobile apps, and as of this writing is not available on the website. The feature allows users to search for specific keywords, and instead of searching for posts as usual, they can simply view images, GIFs, and videos. The new feature doesn’t distinguish between the three, so for now users will have to browse through them all together to find what they’re looking for.
A report from The Verge, who spoke with Reddit spokesperson Courtney Geesey-Dorr, said the company is working on adding the feature to the online version, and it could be available soon.
Reddit’s new feature lets users search for images
You can access the feature by going to the search tool. It’s the big magnifying glass icon at the top of the app. Search for anything, like a funny meme, a picture of a cat, or a video of your favorite team scoring a goal. Now, just below the search bar, you should see several categories like Posts, Comments, Communities, etc. On the left side of Settings, you should see a new Media tab. Tap here to see the new image-only search results.
One thing to note is that the results cannot be sorted by upvotes, publication time or number of comments. So you should be prepared to scroll quite a bit before you find the result you want, especially if it’s not keyword friendly.
