Reliance Jio Announces Launch of 5G Services at 2023 AGM

During the 46th Reliance AGM event, Chairman Mukesh Ambani shared some thrilling news about Jio’s 5G services, suggesting that they will be accessible to customers by December. Furthermore, Jio AirFiber, a wireless internet service, is set to be introduced on September 19. Here are the main points to take away.

Reliance Jio started rolling out the 5G network in October last year and promised nationwide coverage by December 2023. Ambani proudly stated that Jio has already covered 96 percent of the census towns with 5G and will continue on its way to achieve full coverage by the end of the year. While there was no official announcement about the launch of Jio 5G prepaid or postpaid plans, Ambani’s words strongly hinted at a December rollout.

December Debut for Jio 5G Plans

Ambani stated, “From December this year, we will be able to quickly meet all Jio 5G broadband connectivity needs across the country.” Notably, Ambani had previously promised that the Jio 5G plans would be the most affordable globally, though exact pricing details were not disclosed.

The chairman highlighted Jio’s rapid rollout of 5G, highlighting its presence in over 96% of census towns within just nine months of rollout. He declared this achievement to be the fastest-ever global deployment of 5G at this scale.

Jio’s 5G ecosystem

Currently, Jio uses about 85 percent of all active 5G cells in India, with a new 5G cell being added every 10 seconds. By December, Jio expects to have close to a million 5G cells in operation on the network.

Ambani emphasized Jio’s readiness to seamlessly transition its existing 4G customer base to 5G without additional investment. The company relies on a domestically developed 5G stack in the current implementation, which shows its dedication to technological innovation and the development of connections.
