Report: Apple Reportedly Planning to Release Next-Generation MacBook Air Featuring M3 Chip in March 2024
Apple last updated its MacBook Air lineup earlier this year, when the company launched a 15-inch MacBook Air model powered by the M2 chipset. However, apart from the size difference, there was nothing new compared to the 13.6-inch model. Now that Apple has announced its M3 chipset and M3-powered MacBook Pro models, it makes sense for the iPhone maker to release new M3-powered MacBook Air models as well.
This is exactly what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported. Apple will update the MacBook Air line in March 2024 and deliver the M3 chipset. This would result in a computer that is much faster than the outgoing M2 MacBook Air models in terms of both CPU and GPU performance.
It’s also worth mentioning that Apple released its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in October this year. These models are powered by the same M3 chip family. In fact, the base model of the 14-inch MacBook Pro has the base M3 chip, which is also expected to power the new MacBook Air models.
In addition, Gurman claims that Apple may develop new models alongside the macOS 14.3 update, which may arrive on supported devices early next year in January or February. However, the M3-powered MacBook Air models are expected to be released around March.
Apple may also launch new updated iPad Air and iPad Pro models alongside the MacBook Air, since it’s been quite some time since the brand updated its iPad lineup. In fact, Apple did not release a new iPad in 2023.
That being said, the release schedule is always subject to change and these updates should be taken with a grain of salt until Apple makes them officially official.
