Report: OpenAI Utilizing YouTube to Train ChatGPT and Other AI Models
The buzz around ChatGPT is well-deserved, however, recent findings indicate that OpenAI may have utilized YouTube to enhance its AI models, including ChatGPT, for improved response capabilities. According to The Information’s sources, OpenAI has covertly employed YouTube for training certain AI models.
YouTube has been hosting video, audio, and various text formats for years, and OpenAI seems to have put its ability to good use. AI models need tons of data to train, and OpenAI has done that with a video streaming platform. YouTube clearly does not allow its data to be used for such purposes, so it remains to be seen how the Google-owned platform will react to the report in the coming days.
AI models using different training platforms is hardly new, and recently you’ve seen Twitter accuse Microsoft of using its data to train its own AI models. Elon Musk made this claim earlier this year when Microsoft decided to leave Twitter’s advertising platform. But with Google also in the AI mix and Google owning YouTube, reports of OpenAI using the platform to train its AI models are met with scrutiny.
However, Google could take heart from the fact that AI chatbots like ChatGPT could have been trained on its platforms, meaning that the company already has the data set to train its own AI models and help them succeed in the market competition. In fact, the report mentions that Google is already working on its next-generation AI chatbot and its next language model, which will be trained using YouTube.
Google needs stable revenue to make a comeback in the AI arena, where it is well behind ChatGPT 4.0, which is already part of Bing Search for Microsoft.
