Rumors of Apple Launching New Products This Week Spark Debate Over What Will Be Unveiled
There is some uncertainty surrounding Apple’s upcoming launch this week. Initially, there were reports suggesting that the announcement would focus on new iPads, with upgraded chipsets and specifications for all three models. However, subsequent reports contradicted this, stating that the announcement would actually introduce the Apple Pencil 3, a new stylus. Despite the ambiguity surrounding the nature of the announcement, it is confirmed that Apple will make a significant reveal through either a press release or a pre-recorded event, potentially as early as today, October 17.
The earliest report came from 9to5Mac, who confirmed it via Supercharged, claiming that Apple could update its iPad lineup this week with a “smaller spec bump” that could see Apple’s new silicon arrive in iPad models instead of major design changes. . The twist in the story came from a MacRumors report highlighting the Japanese Mac Otakara blog that “the third-generation Apple Pencil is more likely to be released instead of the new iPads.”

Apple announcement this week: new iPads and Apple Pencil 3?
Longtime Apple tipster and Bloomberg technology analyst Mark Gurman also weighed in on the issue in his newsletter, saying, “The new entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini are all in development with faster chips, but I don’t think any major updates are coming.” He also emphasized that iPad Pro models with a new design, OLED screen and faster chipset are in the works, but they won’t go on sale until next year.
Other reports have also highlighted that the announcement could see the iPad Air and iPad Mini bump into the M2 and A16 Bionic chipsets, respectively. There was also talk of an 11th generation iPad with the same design elements as the 10th generation.
Interestingly, a few weeks ago tipster Majin Bu released the X and highlighted what the new Apple Pencil could be. The post claimed: “Based on what my source told me, the new Apple Pencil 3 has interchangeable magnetic tips (for sketching, technical drawing and painting)”. This would be a significant improvement as the first and second generation Apple Pencil doesn’t give you this option. Although the tips are replaceable, they are screwed on and do not use magnets.
At this point, it’s hard to say what Apple might end up announcing because the company has surprised consumers. We’ll know soon though, as an announcement is expected soon.
