Sam Altman says that the OpenAI coup is less stressful compared to superintelligent AI.

Sam Altman stated that the experience of being fired from OpenAI, which was both sudden and then promptly reversed, was comparatively less anxiety-inducing than the global approach towards developing artificial intelligence to match human capabilities.

“As the world approaches AGI, the stakes, the stress, the level of excitement – it all goes up,” the CEO and founder of ChatGPT maker said on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos. on Thursday.

Artificial intelligence has been a key theme at this year’s Davos summit, with business leaders debating how best to use the technology after a flood of investment, while raising concerns about risks, including its potential impact on democracy in a bumper election year. The industry’s rapid progress and companies racing to achieve the hypothetical future artificial intelligence, or AGI, has led many policymakers to call for regulation.

Altman’s ouster by the board in November was “a microcosm of that, but probably not the most stressful experience we face,” he said, speaking on a panel about technology in a turbulent world. He said the episode taught the company not to let “non-urgent issues” linger.

“We had known our board had become too small and we knew we didn’t have the necessary experience, but last year was such a wild year for us in many ways that we just ignored it. ,” he said.
