Samsung’s JB Park Predicts AI Will Transform the Digital Age Ahead of Galaxy Unpacked Event
JB Park, President and CEO of Samsung South West Asia, expressed his enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence as the most exciting aspect of evolving technologies in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18 prior to the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea.
JB Park said the possibility of self-learning AI would open up unprecedented opportunities in the digital age. Regarding regulation, he emphasized the importance of establishing proper guardrails to achieve sustainable technological development.
He said that like any technological development, the development of artificial intelligence requires a well-defined regulatory framework established by the government. Park also expressed concern about artificial intelligence systems becoming self-aware and warned against using artificial intelligence for malicious purposes. He emphasized that it is important to be careful when introducing artificial intelligence in the defense industry.
For India, he wondered if the country should adopt a model similar to South Korea’s approach of promoting national champions to achieve development goals. He mentioned the success of South Korea’s strategy, where major development and growth challenges were given to domestic champions.

Speaking to ReturnByte.com earlier this year, Samsung’s Global Mobile Business Head Dr. TM Roh said that Samsung is also working on generative AI technology.
“Samsung has already incorporated device AI technologies into the camera, performance management and more. We are also actively working with Microsoft, Google and other new partners to develop generative AI technologies. Going forward, AI technology will play an important role in advancing the smartphone industry,” said Dr. TM Roh, Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business in response to a question during a media interaction.
“Thanks to ChatGPT, people’s general interest in AI has increased. We’ve been providing AI-based features on Samsung phones for a long time, and we’re already using our AI resources to boost WiFi and 5G connectivity on smartphones,” he said.
Meanwhile, Samsung is hosting its Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul today at 4:30 p.m. IST in India. During the event, the smartphone maker is all set to launch a number of new products, including the next-generation foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, as well as the new Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Watch 6 series.
