Samsung’s ViewFinity S9 5K Monitor to be Available in August for $1,599

Samsung’s highly anticipated ViewFinity S9 5K monitor will soon be available in the United States, allowing both Mac and PC users to purchase it for $1,599. The renowned tech company initially unveiled this groundbreaking 5K monitor at CES earlier this year and subsequently introduced it to the South Korean market in June.

Samsung has designed the 27-inch ViewFinity S9 5K screen for creativity. It has HDR 600 support, a matte screen to reduce glare and Eye Saver Mode for long days. The company’s first 5K display also has a 5,120 x 2,880 resolution, 99 percent DCI-P3 and 221 pixels per inch. In addition, you can calibrate the ViewFinity S9 5K display through the SmartThings app either in Basic mode, which adjusts gamma settings and white balance, or in Professional mode, which adjusts brightness and color temperature or mode. It includes a 4K camera and is compatible with either PC or Mac.

Interestingly, the ViewFinity S9 5K display costs exactly the same as its competitor, the 27-inch Apple Studio Display – which was first released in early 2022. At that time, we gave Studio Display a rating of 80, because it was due to e.g. -yes, a web camera, 60Hz refresh rate and single-zone backlight. The ViewFinity S9 5K has the same refresh rate, but offers a few better features than Apple’s Studio Display (or at least includes them at no extra cost). Apple charges another $400 to adjust the height and angle of the display, and a whopping $2,299 if you also want the nano-structured glass display. Additionally, the S9 5K has a 4K webcam compared to Apple’s 12-megapixel option. Overall, Samsung’s ViewFinity S9 5K might be a better value choice unless you’re Apple or nothing. See for yourself in stores in August.
