Slack AI to Automatically Summarize Your Work Conversations This Winter

Salesforce has announced that it will be piloting its generative AI capabilities for Slack, known as Slack AI, this winter. These features are integrated directly into the platform for easy access. One notable ability is the instant generation of channel highlights, which provide users with the most crucial parts of conversations. This feature can be utilized for reports or to catch up on missed discussions.

Slack AI can also generate summaries of threads with one click for people who just want to get the gist of specific conversations and not the entire channel. As you can see in the image above, AI-generated summaries not only have highlights, but also lists of what next actions users can take based on the concerns, comments, and suggestions posted by people in the conversation. In addition, Slack AI can generate detailed responses when people search for information on the platform. Currently, Slack’s search can only bring up messages, files, and channels by keyword, but Slack AI can wrap all of this information into a summary that makes it easier to parse.

Salesforce’s latest announcements come nearly a month after it began rolling out a new look for its business-focused messaging app. The purpose of the redesigned user interface is to help users focus better by removing the clutter that might distract some people. For example, Slack’s new sidebar condenses all the user’s workspaces into one screen and adds Home, DM and Activity buttons as well as Search and Create buttons. The My DM tab lists a user’s private conversations and allows them to preview the most recent message in each conversation without opening it. Users can also enable the option to see only unread messages if they want to get rid of more clutter.

The company is expected to reveal more about Slack AI and other new products at its Dreamforce event, which will be held from the 12th to the 14th. September and which is live on Salesforce+.
