Some PS5 owners are playing PS4 versions of games without even realizing it
If you are one of the early owners of Sony PlayStation 5 or PS5 consoles, are you sure you are playing the PS5 version of the title? Apparently, many users don’t know how Sony displays the titles and actually play the PS4 version of the title on PS5 without even knowing it. According to the VG247 website, “Early PS5 users find that their new console sometimes defaults to the PS4 version of the games.”
This was even pointed out indirectly by game developer and publisher Activision for its Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The company has tweeted the steps on whether you’re playing the next gen version of Black Ops Cold War on PS5.
1. Highlight the game thumbnail on the scoreboard
2. Scroll down and select Play
3. Select the 3 points and open the menu
4. Select PS5 | Complete | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
The PS5’s user interface is said to not indicate which version of the title is running. So unless you follow the steps and are sure which version you are playing, you might just be playing the PS4 title on PS5.
However, not everything is going well for PS5 owners around the world. Many gamers encounter a bug that prevents them from downloading certain games and applications. The bug shows that games and apps are stuck in “Waiting to download” or show an error. And according to reports, it seems to happen when a game or app is set up for download for the first time.
Also, users can’t download games that are already in their PS5 library, but the PS5 Store says you don’t have it. This prevents users from downloading games and even canceling the game to try to download it again.
