TM Roh reveals Samsung is discussing with component partners to enhance operations in India.
A senior official stated that Samsung considers India to be a vital market, with Noida and Bengaluru emerging as key R&D hubs for the company. Samsung is currently in discussions with Indian component partners to enhance its operations in the country.
Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) TM Roh spoke at a media roundtable on the sidelines of the Samsung Unpacked 2024 event.
“The Indian market is very important to Samsung. We have been operating a manufacturing facility since 1996 and we also have R&D centers in India. The R&D centers in Noida and Bengaluru have become one of the largest R&D centers for Samsung and the MX business.
“They are busy developing flagship products as well as participating in the development of Galaxy AI technologies,” Roh said, adding that this collaboration and efforts will continue in the future.
In January this year, Roh called India one of Samsung’s key manufacturing facilities and said the Korean electronics firm would start manufacturing laptops this year at its Noida plant.
“We are also working closely with component partners in the Indian market to strengthen infrastructure and supply chain. We have done so and will continue to do so,” Roh said.
At the Samsung Unpacked 2024 event, the tech giant expanded its range of wearable products by launching the Galaxy Ring, a wearable health and wellness device powered by Galaxy AI.
It also announced its sixth-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, as well as the Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are manufactured at the Noida factory.
“The Indian market is one of those markets where the foldable range is growing exponentially, with Galaxy foldables at the center.
“In particular, the health AI enablement in our new products like watches and foldables, the contribution and efforts of R&D centers in India were huge,” Roh said.
He further said that the company expects market demand to increase this year and has high expectations for Indian customers and consumers who will adopt the new foldable range with optimized Galaxy AI.
“We are getting closer to consumers through various initiatives like first-hand experience programs, promotional activities related to games and also activities related to Olympic sponsorship,” he said.
Regarding the commercialization of artificial intelligence services, Roh said that mobile artificial intelligence technologies and their usage methods are advancing at such a speed that it would be too early to comment on how it could be monetized.
“I believe monetization decisions should be and are made thoroughly based on the voice of the customer and customer needs, market demands, market needs, and technology trends and changes,” he said.
