TweetDeck Classic Returns with its Original Features
Twitter recently started transitioning users to the updated version of TweetDeck following a temporary disruption caused by the platform’s decision to restrict the number of tweets users could see. However, many users consider this change to be a downgrade as the new version lacks certain features present in its predecessor. Although it is now possible to revert to the previous release of TweetDeck, it is highly likely that this option will only be available for a limited period.
As noted by The Verge, some Twitter users noticed overnight that the old TweetDeck had returned without an official announcement from Elon Musk, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, or any of the company’s official social accounts. Additionally, a handful of developers, including Harpy creator Roberto Doering, found Twitter’s old API working again, allowing their third-party clients to work again. Again, how long this will remain true is hard to say.
“Note that this does not mean that Harpy will be maintained again, as Twitter will likely soon (re)close access to their old API and third-party apps are still against their [terms of service],” Doering wrote on Harpy’s GitHub page. When Twitter began pushing users to switch to the new Tweetdeck, the company said users would need to be verified to continue using the tool, meaning most people would need to subscribe to Twitter Blue if they wanted to keep access.
