Twitter Restarts Google Cloud Payments Under New Leadership
It seems that Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, has resolved the tense relationship with Google Cloud regarding outstanding payments prior to the contract’s June 30th deadline.
According to the Wall Street Journal, he intervened to repair the relationship with Google, and the microblogging platform now pays for Google Cloud services.
“Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino stepped in to repair the relationship between the social media company and Alphabet’s Google after a payment issue,” the report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The two companies are now looking for a broader relationship after Twitter returned to paying its bills.
They are also discussing partnerships where Google could use Twitter’s API and buy ads on the platform, the report said.
Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Elon Musk-led Twitter has refused to pay Google Cloud bills as its contract comes up for renewal this month.
According to a report in Platformer magazine, unless Twitter pays or develops something, “its access could be cut off on June 30 when their contract expires.”
Before Musk bought the microblogging platform for $44 billion in October last year, the company signed a multi-year deal with Google to host anti-spam, child sexual abuse material (CSAM) removal and account protection services.
Twitter has been trying to renegotiate its contract with Google since at least March.
Smyte, a company bought by Twitter in 2018 that provides tools to stop abuse and harassment, is currently among the services on Google Cloud Platform.
