1. Sam Altman said that 100 million people use ChatGPT every week. He also highlighted that 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies and more than 2 million developers worked with GPT model APIs.
2. GPT-4 Turbo: The GPT-4 Turbo is the latest iteration of the company’s GPT series of LLMs. The new model has a context window of 128,000 tokens and has “better world awareness” than its predecessor. The larger amount of the token window also ensures that longer and more detailed prompts can be written to it. It accepts images as input, can produce human-quality speech, and has two variants: a text-only version and a text + images version.
3. Cheaper LLM: Altman has also made the GPT-4 Turbo cheaper than its predecessor. Noting that developers told the company that GPT APIs would be used more if they were cheaper, he said the upcoming LLM would be 3x cheaper for input tokens and 2x cheaper for output tokens. The company is also working on improving the speed of the model to make it “much faster”.
4. ChatGPT Data Update: Chatbot will update its data until April 2023, while it is limited to September 2021 after its launch. “We’re trying to never let it expire again,” Altman said.
5. Copyright Protection: OpenAI has announced a “Copyright Protection” that seeks to protect its customers from any copyright infringement lawsuits related to text generated by users of its GPT Enterprise API. “We can defend our customers and pay the costs incurred if you face legal claims for copyright infringement,” Altman said. Google also recently released a similar legal protection.
6. Custom ChatGPT: Developers will soon be able to create custom chatbots, called GPTs, tailored to specific use cases. They can be equipped with filters, custom data and actions that define how they should behave. This is a no-code platform. GPTs are available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and OpenAI enterprise customers, allowing them to create unique GPTs for internal use.
7. “Since the release of ChatGPT, people have been asking for ways to customize ChatGPT to fit their specific usage patterns. In July, we released custom instructions that let you configure some settings, but requests for more control kept coming in. Many power users maintain a list of carefully crafted prompts and sets of instructions and copy them manually to ChatGPT. GPTs now do all this for you,” OpenAI said in a statement shared with The Verge.
8. GPT Store: OpenAI will release GPT Store later this month. This is a marketplace where people can sell their own GPT devices. In addition to this, Altman stated that the company “pays the people who build the most useful and most used GPTs.”
9. ChatGPT UI Update: ChatGPT has also got a new UI with a dark background with the OpenAI logo and the text “How can I help you today?”.
10. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also appeared on stage and spoke about cooperation with OpenAI. He told Altman, “You guys have built something magical,” to which the OpenAI CEO replied, “I’m excited that we’re building AGI together.” AGI refers to general artificial intelligence, which is considered the next step in current artificial intelligence.
