Unlock AI Power with MediaTek: Compete with Google Pixel Smartphones!
The rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have made it the most talked-about topic of the year. Major companies worldwide are actively working to integrate this technology into their range of products. Even smartphone manufacturers have not been left behind in this AI revolution, as demonstrated by the latest Google Pixel devices, which come equipped with numerous AI features thanks to the new Tensor G3 SoC. In line with this trend, MediaTek has announced at its annual Executive Summit 2023 that it will be introducing its own AI-powered chips for smartphones, aiming to incorporate generative AI into its product lineup. Stay informed about this exciting new development.
MediaTek AI chips – the answer to Google Pixel?
Although not many details were revealed, David Ku, CFO of MediaTek, emphasized that the company’s AI chips could have image processing capabilities just like Google Pixel devices. According to a CNET report, it potentially allows users to remove unwanted objects from images, similar to Google’s Magic Eraser feature. In addition, it could also utilize artificial intelligence to provide personalized suggestions. With the help of an artificial intelligence chip, smartphones can automatically create captions with images on social media.
MediaTek already has a couple of chips that support the device’s creative artificial intelligence. MediaTek Dimensity 9300 for flagship devices and Dimensity 8300 for mid-range smartphones offer gen AI capabilities. According to the company, the Dimensity 9300 supports large language models (LLMs) with up to 33 billion parameters, while the Dimensity 8300 can use LLMs with up to 10 billion parameters.
MediaTek’s CFO also emphasized the immense utility of AI when integrated into a personal assistant. Ku gave an example of an AI-powered assistant that warns the user of an urgent email, even if the smartphone is on silent, and at the same time offers contextual solutions for various situations.

In addition to the creative addition of artificial intelligence to smartphones, MediaTek also presented Redcap 5G modems at its summit. These are modems that can help devices with lower data capacity, such as smart home appliances. Smartphones aren’t the only frontier that can benefit from generative AI. According to Ku, AI could also potentially be integrated into vehicles, allowing it to perform various tasks, such as telling your colleagues you’re late for work when you hit traffic.
