How to Use Amitabh Bachchan’s Voice on PhonePe SmartSpeakers

Last year, PhonePe introduced its SmartSpeakers for merchants, which have since been widely adopted by thousands of shop owners in India. These SmartSpeakers serve as an accessory that verbally announces whenever an amount is added to the UPI account. This eliminates the need for merchants to constantly open the app during busy periods to check if money has been sent. Now, PhonePe is enhancing this feature by adding a fun element to it. Currently, the SmartSpeakers have a default neutral voice that can be customized for different regional languages. However, PhonePe plans to upgrade this by introducing a new celebrity voice feature, allowing users to hear the renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan’s voice when receiving payments on PhonePe SmartSpeakers. According to a press release shared by PhonePe, the celebrity voice feature was launched in India with the voice of famous actor Amitabh Bachchan. Currently, the feature is available in two languages: Hindi and English, and the company plans to introduce more languages in the near future.

On the launch of the new celebrity feature, Vivek Lohcheb, Head of Offline Business, PhonePe, said, “We are delighted to launch a unique celebrity voice feature on our SmartSpeaker to merchant partners across India. Mr. Bachchan’s voice has an immediate and universal appeal and resonates with millions of Indians across the country. Because one in four Indians uses a popular Indian app, we believe this collaboration will increase the popularity of PhonePe SmartSpeaker among merchants and customers alike.

PhonePe announced that merchants currently use four million SmartSpeakers in more than 19,000 zip codes. This data covers 90 percent of the country. The goal of the new feature is to improve the experience of customers and merchants in terms of interactivity.

How merchants can use the new PhonePe feature

• Users must first open the PhonePe for Business app.
• You will see the SmartSpeaker option on the home screen.
• Go to “My Smart Speaker” and tap on “Smart Speaker Voice”.
• Now select the voice of Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and the language of your choice.
• Tap “Confirm” to activate the sound.
• Then your device will go through the reboot process to activate Mr. Bachchan’s voice. This process may take a few hours.
