X, a competitor of WhatsApp, now allows users to make video and audio calls.
The social media platform Twitter, now known as X, continues to evolve. While the microblogging site had previously offered voice and video calling options exclusively to Premium users, Elon Musk, the owner of X, has now made these features available to all users on the platform. With this update, users with an X account can make free calls to other users directly through the platform. The decision to introduce the feature on X makes the app a competitor to platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, which allow users to call in both formats.
If you want to know about this new feature of the app, read about how you can make voice/video calls on the platform.
Making video/voice calls with X
– Open the X app on your device and go to the Direct Messages (DM) section.
– Select an existing conversation or start a new message.
– Tap on the phone icon and choose either “Voice Call” or “Video Call” option according to your preference.
– After selection, the recipient receives a notification that you are trying to reach them.
– When the recipient has answered the call, you can start a conversation.
If the recipient does not answer the call, he will receive a notification about the missed call.
Disabling video and voice calling on X
But if you’re someone who doesn’t want to make or receive calls on the platform, here’s how to disable the feature:
– Open the X app on your mobile phone or laptop.
– Tap on your profile picture and go to Settings and Support.
– Select Settings and Privacy.
– Click on the Privacy and security option.
– When you’re done, you’ll find an option called “Direct Messages”.
– Tap on it and find the “Enable voice and video calls” option.
– Turn off the slider to the opposite side and you won’t receive calls in the app.
This option will remove the phone symbol from your DMs and other X users will not be able to contact you via video or voice call.
