X takes action against more than 200,000 Indian accounts for policy violations in response to increasing online content worries.
X, a company owned by Elon Musk, has released its monthly compliance report, revealing its strict measures against policy violators in India. From February 26 to March 25, the company took action by banning more than 213,000 accounts nationwide. The majority of these suspensions were due to violations such as promoting child sexual exploitation, sharing non-consensual nudity, and endorsing terrorism on the platform.
Enhanced measures against harmful content
The report shows a significant number of 212,627 accounts flagged and banned over a period of time for their involvement in the distribution of illegal and harmful content. Additionally, X took action against 1,235 accounts found guilty of promoting terrorism in India.
“The platform has long-standing measures to combat child sexual abuse and terrorism. X takes a strong stance against any content that contains or promotes child sexual abuse, whether in media, text, illustrations or computer-generated images,” the report states. .
The report addresses these alarming trends and highlights X’s unwavering commitment to mitigating child sexual abuse and terrorist activity. It strictly establishes the platform’s zero tolerance for content, be it media, text, graphics or computer-generated images, that promotes or contains such illegal activity.
As for concerns about the spread of harmful content online, platforms like X are stepping up their efforts to counter these actions and maintain an environment conducive to constructive discussion. Responding to user complaints, X reported receiving 5,158 complaints from Indian users during the same reporting period. The platform’s fast and efficient complaint redressal mechanisms are highlighted by this ban, demonstrating its dedication to responding to user concerns promptly.
“We reviewed 86 complaints complaining about account suspensions. All were resolved with appropriate responses. After review, 7 account suspensions were lifted based on special circumstances. The rest of the reported accounts are still suspended,” the report clarified.
Balance of policy implementation
The report discusses the platform’s response to user complaints and reveals that 86 complaints challenging account suspensions were addressed. After a thorough review, seven of these account freezes were lifted, while the other reported accounts remained frozen in accordance with X’s policies and guidelines.
Despite the lifting of a few suspensions, the majority of reported accounts remained banned, reinforcing the company’s commitment to upholding its standards. In addition, X sent 29 general account inquiries during the reporting period, highlighting its active engagement with users on various fronts.
