YouTube Music App Gives iPhone Users New AirPlay Features Including Mini Player and Swipe Controls
YouTube Music has been making efforts to close the gap with popular music apps such as Spotify and Apple Music, which have long been praised for their extensive features. Despite lagging behind, YouTube is determined to keep up and has recently introduced a convenient method for changing songs in its mini-player.

iPhone gets a permanent mini player update
This new feature came to Android in June and is now available on iPhone and iPad. The mini player is now permanent and cannot be removed. They have also added AirPlay for iPhone users. Instead of a “Next song” button, you’ll see AirPlay (and Cast) in the mini player. This opens up a menu that used to be in the top-right corner of the screen, making the app cleaner with just a search bar and an account picture, according to a 9to5Mac report.
The play button is now on the right side, which may take some time to get used to. But the best part is that you can switch songs by swiping left and right, which you couldn’t do before. It’s much faster!
One thing to note is that you can no longer swipe down on the mini player to clear your playlist. To do this, go to “Now Playing” and look for “Dismiss eue” at the top (it used to be at the bottom on Android). It’s a bit more complicated now, but you’ll get used to it.
This new iPhone mini player launches today with version 6.20 of YouTube Music. If you still don’t see it, try closing the app from multitasking and it might show up.
Enjoy a new way to manage your music in YouTube Music!
