YouTube TV Offers Multiview Streams for Non-Sports Content
YouTube TV has broadened the reach of its multiview feature to cater to non-sports enthusiasts. Initially, the feature allowed up to four sports streams to be displayed simultaneously. However, users can now select from a range of streams, including news, business news, weather content, and sports streams. While viewers are still limited to preselected videos, they now have more options and are not restricted to watching all four screens showing sporting events.
The service first launched in March with a focus on sports, just in time for the NCAA’s March Madness event. Multiview is supported on all smart TVs and media players that can use YouTube TV, because the processing takes place on the service’s servers. While viewers can keep an eye on all four streams at once, they can switch to a full-screen view for each and switch audio and subtitles to whichever event they want to focus on at the moment.
In addition to the expansion of the Multiview software, YouTube TV also adds Spanish-language sports channels to the pre-selected streaming options for members with a Spanish or Spanish Plus plan. Some members may not yet have access to the expanded multi-screen options, but they will soon enough — YouTube TV says it will gradually roll out these updates to all users over the summer.
