Will 2021 Bring Affordable Foldable Phones from Tech Giants? Worth the Wait?
The foldable market is finally coming to the party and not just limiting the segment to one brand like Samsung has been for years. But now we’re seeing more brands enter the arena, which means good news for shoppers in more ways than one. First, you get more options for folding, budget, and more to suit your needs.
And yes, more brands means the technology is evolving to go further down the price chain, which means affordable foldables are on the way. According to new reports, Huawei and Samsung may be lining up so-called mid-range foldable devices, and we should see them hit the market sometime next year.
A report from TrendForce claims that brands now want the foldable segment to explode, and by that we mean the people who keep them available in terms of price tag. According to it, both Huawei and Samsung could launch low-cost foldable devices for around $400 (roughly Rs. 32,000), making them cheaper than the current foldable device in the long run.
Pricing is one of the major reasons for the lack of growth in the foldable segment where people want to see better value for their purchases but are unlikely to spend 1.40 lakh or more on the foldable phones you currently have available in the market.
The most affordable foldable you can buy right now comes from the Tecno brand, which also has a flip phone priced under Rs 50,000. Decreasing the price of foldable products is a clear step in the right direction, and the industry could benefit from such a decision, as the forecasts give a rosy picture of the folding market in the coming years.
Samsung and Huawei are working to keep the lower budget factor in place, but also to take care of the exciting features that people would like to see in this price range.
