Over 25 Lakh Twitter Accounts Banned in India
According to its monthly report, Twitter has blocked over 2.5 million accounts in India between March 25 and April 26 for violating guidelines related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. The microblogging platform has undergone numerous changes related to content, moderation, and verification since Elon Musk took over. In February, Twitter announced modifications to its guidelines that allowed suspended accounts to appeal and be evaluated under new criteria for reinstatement.
Accounts are banned
In addition to banning a record 25 accounts for violating pedophile and nudity rules, Twitter also banned 2,249 accounts for promoting terrorism on the platform. This means that a total of 25,53,881 were closed for violating various guidelines.
“We have removed three of these suspended accounts after reviewing the details of the situation. The other reported accounts remain suspended,” the company said.
According to Twitter’s monthly report, it received 158 complaints in India from users who registered their complaints through Twitter support between March and April. According to the new IT rules of 2021, any social media platform with more than 5 million users must publish a monthly compliance report.
What are the complaints?
Twitter published information on complaints received. Of the complaints received on the microblogging platform, 83 were about abuse or harassment, and 41 were about sensitive adult content. It was followed by 19 complaints of hateful behavior and 12 complaints of defamation.
WhatsApp ban
Like Twitter, WhatsApp has released its monthly compliance report, which reveals that it has banned more than 74,000,000 accounts in India between April 1 and April 30 in response to user complaints, actions related to violations of laws or terms of service, and orders received. from the Grievance Committee (GAC), according to ANI.
