Here are 4 apps that don’t limit the number of expenses you can add for free, unlike Splitwise.
When you’re out partying, traveling with friends, or sharing an apartment with roommates, what’s the first thing that comes to mind when you want to split expenses? For most of us, it’s Splitwise. It has been the quintessential app that most fall back on when it comes to sharing expenses, and rightly so, given the feature set it brings and the polished interface that users have come to appreciate.
However, the app has added limits on how many spends you can add per day for free, and introduced a 10-second cooldown before adding spends.
We checked this update ourselves and found the same; however, we can add up to 4 charges at a time unlike many other users reported 3. Additionally, we encountered a 10-second cooldown on both Android and iOS platforms. This was checked on two separate accounts. Notably, Splitwise acknowledges the same on their website.
Adding these features behind a paywall is understandably a bid to entice users to buy Splitwise Pro, which lets you add unlimited expenses, convert currencies, scan receipts, and more. Users can subscribe to it at Rs 149 per month or pay Rs 999 per year. In the US, the same costs $5 per month or $40 per year.
This has certainly been a source of frustration for long-time Splitwise users and may even have pushed them away. We encountered numerous users on X (formerly Twitter) who expressed their dismay at this unwanted change. “Happy holidays everyone except Splitwise who thought it was a good idea to put a daily limit on spending,” a user who goes by the username afusa_ said on X.
Many others said they were looking for alternatives: “Is there an alternative to Splitwise? Mark my words the crash has begun @\splitwise. $5 a month to do divisive addition and multiplication, nah, that’s why I went to grad school,” user @speedster_se7en said.

Now that you can’t add as many expenses as you want for free, we’ve compiled a list of free and paid options that allow users to share expenses with anyone. They are as follows.
Splitwise options you can use:
Split spindle
Made in India, this app is a great alternative to Splitwise and offers features like online bill sharing, household expense management and even lets you import all your data from Splitwise so you can easily switch without resorting to Splitwise. to old shops. It’s available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, and most importantly, it doesn’t limit how much you can spend on a daily basis. The user interface was also functional and easy to use.
PhonePe, Google Pay
Many people in India are now using UPI-based apps like Google Pay and PhonePe to make payments. These apps now also have cost-sharing features. Although they are not dedicated cost-sharing apps, they offer a good number of features for free.
SplitMyExpenses
For now, this is a web-only experience that you can use on your phone, but unlike Splitwise, it makes features like uploading receipts and adding so many expenses completely free. You can split expenses by equal amount, percentage, shares, adjustments or itemization. In addition, you can even add or invite friends from payment apps.
Find out – group expenses
This is another alternative to Splitwise, and it doesn’t even require each group member to download the app. You can add as many expenses as you want, but there is a basic solution: you have to watch ads every now and then. But since it’s free, with an option to go ad-free for a one-time payment of Rs 3,999, it offers a balanced experience with a minimalist interface.
