5 AI Developments You May Have Missed: ‘AI Enhancing Human Creativity’, Cyberpunk 2077 AI Voice, and More

Today marked a significant milestone in the advancement of artificial intelligence, as major progress was achieved in this rapidly evolving field. Google made a noteworthy announcement, stating that it will offer copyright infringement lawsuit protection to its customers utilizing generative AI tools. Additionally, the company extended legal protection to seven of its products. In a separate development, CD Projekt SA disclosed that it employed AI technology to replicate the voice of a deceased voice actor for the game Cyberpunk 2077. These are just a few highlights from today’s AI roundup, and we will delve deeper into these stories.

Google protects customers from copyright litigation

Google announced that it has committed to protecting customers using certain generative AI products from copyright infringement lawsuits. In a blog post, the company has assured users that it offers protection to those who now use products with generative AI features, and addresses concerns about potential copyright infringement related to generative AI.

“If you are sued for copyright reasons, we will take responsibility for any legal risks,” Google said. The seven products included in this allowance are Duet AI in Workspace, Duet AI in Google Cloud, Vertex AI Search, Vertex AI Conversation, Vertex AI Text Embedding API, Visual Captioning in Vertex AI, and Codey API.

Cyberpunk 2077 used artificial intelligence to recreate the voice of a dead actor

Polish video game developer CD Projekt SA has revealed the use of artificial intelligence in its latest game. The company used AI to recreate the voice of the late Polish voice actor Milogost Reczek, who died in 2021. This AI algorithm was applied in the Polish version of Phantom Liberty, a new expansion integrated into CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077.

The company told Bloomberg that it had received approval from Reczek’s family for this initiative. CD Projekt also mentioned that they had considered replacing the deceased actor in the expansion and re-recording his lines in the original game, but ultimately decided against it.

Mike Skinner says AI is forcing us to be crazier

Mike Skinner, an English rapper, singer-songwriter, musician and record producer best known for his project The Streets, told AFP his opinion on artificial intelligence. He said: “Artificial intelligence makes human creativity so much weirder because to stand out against it, you can’t copy anything. It forces people to be a little more goofy and a little more avant-garde.”

AWS CEO says AI ‘is going to be incredible’

Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), told Fox Business that the development of artificial intelligence “is going to be so incredible” that “policy makers need to think carefully about not stifling innovation.”

At the same time, he also highlighted the downside, admitting there was a “potential for abuse”, so he didn’t want to leave the space alone, but instead wanted “appropriate safeguards and a regulatory framework put in place”.

Researchers are designing an energy-efficient AI chip

Artificial intelligence machine learning often relies on significant computing power and consumes a significant amount of energy, which is why it is mainly implemented in cloud-based environments. However, according to a New Atlas report, researchers have developed a new microtransistor that is 100 times more efficient than current technology.

A team of researchers from Northwestern University has presented this new nanoelectronic device in an article published in the journal Nature Electronics. This device is designed to perform well in classification tasks that involve analyzing huge data sets and identifying critical patterns.
