Google integrates original Nest Indoor Cameras with Home App
Google has announced that users can now transfer their first-generation Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor devices from the old Nest app to the new Home application. The company has started rolling out this feature for the indoor camera through the public preview version of the Home app, and it will take a few weeks to reach all users.
Nest cameras had their own app before Google bought the company. Over time, Google added support for all of its smart home products to its Home app, but users of the older Nest cameras had to stick with the original app to control their devices. With this update, and as long as the user is in public preview, people can access their first generation Nest Cam Indoor through the Home app and enjoy its updated camera history experience. They can also add a camera to their Favorites tab so that its feed appears as soon as they open the app.
When Google first announced the ability to add older Nest camera models to the Home app, it said the transfer would take users about 10 minutes. After that, they no longer need the old app to view camera data and footage, enabling a single app experience for many users.
