Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, Has a Secretly Operated Instagram Account That is Widely Followed
Apple CEO Tim Cook is a popular figure in the circle, but his social life is mainly limited to a few profiles. Cook has had a profile on Twitter (now X) since 2013, so when news broke that Cook also has an Instagram account, it got people interested. Millions began to follow him, including some of his most senior Apple executives, such as Lisa Jackson, Alan Dye and others.
But the funny thing is, Cook isn’t even on the platform and these people seem to be following a fake Tim Cook Instagram account called @tim.d.cook that was created in July of this year. The profile has since shared two posts, one related to World Photography Day featuring two phones shot on an iPhone, and the other a 30-second ad for the 3DPets campaign that Apple officially announced last week.
9to5Mac reports that Cook has never created an account on Instagram, so we’re not sure why these high-level Apple employees have been following a fake account. Apple plans to remove a fake Tim Cook account from Instagram, but that doesn’t explain why some of the company’s top people are following this account unless they know something other people don’t.
Anyway, these rumors have now been put to bed as Instagram has finally removed the fake Tim Cook account and hopefully people will now be careful before following celebrity accounts and not fall for the fake ones. If big personalities like Cook join the platform, it’s likely that Instagram will give them a verified (blue check) mark on the account from day one to avoid impersonation and fake accounts.
Either way, it’s about time Cook upped his social activism and made an official account on more of these platforms to connect with his fans and consumers.
