Apple Event: Unveiling iOS 17 With NameDrop, StandBy, Journal And More Features For iPhones
Cupertino-based technology giant Apple will announce the next generation iPhone 15 series smartphones on September 12 at its “wonderlust event”. The new iPhones have the latest iOS 17, which brings with it a number of new features and improvements.
Some of the major features of iOS 17 include standby mode, NameDrop, diary, extended call history and more. These updates will be available for iPhones later this month.
Here are some important features coming to iPhone this month with iOS 17.
1. Standby: iOS 17 teased during WWDC 2023 includes a new Standy feature. When you turn your iPhone on its side while charging, you get a new full-screen experience with viewable information designed to be viewed from afar. You can choose which clocks, photos and widgets to display.
2. Contact Posters: The phone app is getting a big update. Now you can customize your profile based on callers and even set your avatar as your iPhone’s lock screen image.
Invited contacts posters, the feature works when you receive a call from the person you have set their photo profile to. You can also add fonts to further customize your posters and the best part is that you can use it for third-party calling apps as well.
3. Messages: Now you can use search filters to find exactly the message you are looking for and view the transcript of your voice messages.
4. FaceTime: New Video Effects give you more ways to express yourself in all video conferencing apps, including FaceTime. You can now make FaceTime calls on Apple TV 4K with Continuity Camera.
5. NameDrop: Now you can easily change your contact information simply by bringing your iPhone near another iPhone or Apple Watch. With the same gesture, you can share photos or start a SharePlay session.
6. Diary: This brand new app lets you record the everyday moments and special events of your life by writing about them. The Journal also includes scheduled notifications to help build the habit of looking at past events to generate new insights.
7. Passwords: iOS 17 brings easier ways to share passwords or passwords. Sharing is done via iCloud Keychain, and group members can edit or even add new passwords that are available to everyone in the group.
8. Siri: Apple has confirmed that it will ditch the word Hello to activate Siri on iPhones. The company also said it will let you talk to the voice assistant without saying Siri every time.
9. Maps: With iOS 17, you can now download maps and use them offline. Choose the area you want to use, search and explore location data, and get routes for all modes of transportation offline.
10. Adaptive sound for AirPods: In iOS 17, the Cupertino-based company brings a new AirPods feature with adaptive sound that changes according to your environment.
It is important to note that iOS 17 is compatible with iPhone XR/iPhone XS and later, which means it will remove support for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
