X Launches Algorithmic ‘For You’ Feed with T2 Release
In less than a year since Elon Musk assumed control of X (formerly Twitter), the microblogging platform has experienced numerous transformations. These include significant staff reductions, the elimination of verification, restrictions on the number of tweets one can read, and a subsequent rebranding to X. Some users have expressed opposition to Musk’s strict measures and have begun exploring alternative platforms to express their ideas. As a result, alternative microblogging platforms like Bluesky Social, Spill, and Instagram’s Threads have emerged.
Yet another X option called T2, which expanded to an invite-only stage earlier this year, now introduces an X-like For You feature.
T2 Releases “For You”
T2, a microblogging platform that can provide a “2007 Twitter” feel according to founder Gabor Cselle, is an emerging social platform founded by former Google and X employees. It’s an attempt to recapture what made X special in its early days and build on it to offer users a more classic take on the microblogging platform. To aid in these efforts, T2 has now announced the launch of a ‘for you’ feature, which will offer personalized messages based on the user’s preferences.
According to a TechCrunch report, T2’s For You feed takes four things into account before the algorithm works its magic. It takes into account whether you follow the account, whether its language is the same as your browser, whether its topic matches your interests and how recent it is. Therefore, its purpose is not only to show trending content, but it tries to bring content that is fresh yet relevant to your feed.
Unlike X, the For You feed in T2 is not a default feed and forced on users. Instead, it offers three separate feeds – for you, followers and everyone.
While Instagram’s Threads exploded in popularity with hundreds of millions of users just months after its launch before most of them left, T2 still has a very small user base with only tens of thousands of users. The microblogging platform is still in the invite-only phase. Also, it currently only has a web app and no dedicated apps for Android and iOS devices.
