Twitter Announces Change from ‘Tweets’ to ‘Posts’ in Updated Terms of Service

X is implementing major revisions to its terms of service, urging users to utilize the term “post” instead of “tweet” when mentioning their updates on their handle. These updated terms will come into effect on September 29th. Notably, the replacement of “retweet” with “repost” signifies the conclusion of the era where the term “tweet” was commonly used.

Rebranding from Twitter to X

X is also renewing its brand. The word “Twitter” is largely replaced by the word “X”. However, some developer-centric website URLs, such as this one (https://developer.x.com/en/docs/twitter-for-websites), still contain the word “Twitter”. This suggests that X may not completely remove the Twitter name, as X.com still redirects to twitter.com, according to a report from The Verge.

The updated terms have removed references to Periscope, Twitter’s now-defunct streaming app.

In addition to these brand changes, other updates have been made to the terms. One notable change is a clause that says, “By using X to the extent permitted by law, you also waive the right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any alleged class action, collective action, or representative action.”

Stricter data capture policies

The updated terms also include stricter language against data capture from X’s services. It states that “indexing or scraping of the Services in any form and for any purpose without our written permission is expressly prohibited.” This change corresponds to the preferences of X owner Elon Musk.

In addition, X now asks users for permission to collect their biometric data and work history. The updated privacy policy states: “Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for security and identification purposes.” It also states that X may use personal information such as work history, educational background, work preferences, skills and job search activity to recommend potential jobs, share them with potential employers and display relevant advertising.

These new terms and policies will take effect on September 29th. So if you’re an X user, be prepared for these changes in the near future.
