What the Closure of X’s Circles Means for You
X, previously known as Twitter, has made the surprising decision to shut down its Circles feature just a year after its launch. Circles allowed users to selectively tweet or post to a specific group of friends or colleagues, keeping it private from the rest of the world. The feature was initially tested in May 2022 with a limited number of users on iOS, Android, and the web, and was later made available to the public in August. This decision to discontinue Circles is part of a series of changes that the Elon Musk-owned platform has undergone recently, including the removal of Twitter Blue and a rebranding to X.

X closes Circles
The Circuits feature will not be available in X after October 31, 2023. In a blog post, X announced that “X will be disabling circles starting October 31, 2023. After that date, you won’t be able to create new posts that are limited to your circle, and you won’t be able to add people to your circle.”
However, X has stated that users can still remove users from their circles by unfollowing them. You can do this by logging into your X account, going to an account in your circles, and unfollowing them. These users will be removed from your circles and will not be able to see past messages.
How do districts differ from communities?
Circles are different from Twitter communities, providing a place for people to connect, share, and get closer to the conversations they’re most engaged with on Twitter. Twitter Circle is for sharing the tweets you want to share with only the people you want to see them.
Also, for now, it does not allow users to leave the Twitter circle. If you don’t want to be part of the Twitter circle, you simply have to block or unfollow the person. You can also only have one Twitter circle.
